AN INTRODUCTION
I work with industrial materials. I like how they battle the elements, the hard lines, the strength and durability of metals in particular, questioning a sense of permanence. I personally cast bronze works made from moulds of splintered wood, as well as weld steel assemblages that rust and take on more recognisable forms of birds and animals. Interlaced lines and facets characterise my work. I like the sculpture to feel alive, dynamic and edgy, intricate and full of potential. I’m influenced by myths of guardians and animal totems throughout history, and aim to bring them alive in the landscape.

Falcon Study
The New Zealand Falcon, or Karearea, serves as a focal point in my recent work. Local Otago schist was sourced as the base plinths, whilst I crafted a series of attributes that represent the essence of these magnificent raptors. Each piece, made from splinters of forestry wood, reflects the unique qualities and symbolism that the Karearea embodies for me.
